Coin, dupondius
A copper alloy dupondius of Emperor Nero, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 54-68. The back of the coin depicts Securitas, the Roman goddess of security and stability. This coin was minted in Lugdunum (modern day Lyon, France), AD 64-66.
Obv: Laureate head of Nero, facing left, small globe at point of bust. Obv inscription: IMP NERO CAESAR AVG P MAX TR P PP (blundered/double struck). Rev: Securitas, enthroned right, holding a sceptre in her left hand and resting her head on the right hand, before her is a lighted altar, against which is a lighted torch. Rev inscription: SECVRITAS AVGVSTI, SC in exergue.
