Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; late 14th-15th century
Shoe
Fragment of the upper from a left foot adult size shoe. The fragment comes from the vamp and has a worn, partly missing toe end. The vamp is front laced with a slit for the throat. There is stitching indicating where the missing tongue insert would have been. There were also two small triangular inserts to reinforce each side of the lacing area and one of these survives. There are two lace holes with part of the lace still in situ. From a 15th-century silt deposit.
