Scabbard chape
Incomplete sword scabbard chape. The copper-alloy scabbard chape is now detached but looks more like a strap-end or belt chape and a join between it and the scabbard cannot be found. It has incised decoration on one face which is inscribed IHC. It is formed of three or more pieces comprising two sheets on the front and back and then long strips for the sides and base. There are two rivet holes near the top edge, one with a rivet still in situ. It is perhaps likely that these two objects do not belong together but rather were originally found together and a relationship assumed.
