Sheath
Leather knife sheath richly ornamented on both front and back. The decoration is divided into two zones reflecting the handle and blade areas. On the front the decoration within both areas is the same being formed of stamped lions rampant within oval frames divided and framed by fleur-de-lys. The handle area also has a panel of impressed V's (similar to those on a sheath from London recovered from a context dating to the early to mid 14th century. The back blade and handle areas have impressed fleur-de-lys framing a series of lozenges on their side, each of which contains a stamped lion rampant. The handle area also has a panel of impressed linear motifs and a plain panel containing the four suspension slots. There is a side seam with edge/grain stitch holes. There is some similarity to some of the motifs used on sheath 4662.
