Hood; Lord Ferrers
This type of hood may have been one of the badges adopted by Sir Walter Devereux, Lord Ferrers (c.1432-85). In 1475, the badge was worn by a troupe of men-at-arms and 200 archers taken by Ferrers on Edward IV's expedition to France. At that time it was described as a 'ffrench wyfis hood boundyn' (French wife's hood bound). The badge was used by the Ferrers family until at lease the middle of the 16th century.
