Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; late 14th-early 15th century
Shoe
Part of an upper (vamp) for an adult size shoe with open work decoration and a missing toe area. The shoe has side laced fastening with five lace holes remaining. There is also the impression of a rectangular insert that would have reinforced and strengthened the area around the lace holes. The openwork decoration is in the form of regularly spaced oval holes. The insert is missing from the throat edge. Published in Grew & de Neergaard 1988, 82, no. 116a).
