William Martin issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the Quay, in Barking, Essex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference Essex number 11; Obv inscription: WILLIAM.MARTIN.AT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A ship (in field); Rev inscription: THE.KEY.AT.BARKING (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.P.M. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Barking was formerly part of Essex; the area is now part of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
