The Golden Ball
Edmund Tanner issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Golden Ball, in Tothill Street, Westminster.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3173. Obv inscription: EDMVND.TANNER.AT.YE. GOLDEN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A ball and I.E.T. (triad of initials in Roman capitals around sign, in field); Rev inscription: BALL.IN.TVTTLE.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / 1668 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).
