The Fox
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued for a business against the chapel in the area of Tothill, Westminster.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3170; Obv inscription: AGAINST.YE.CHAPEL (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A fox (in field); Rev inscription: IN.TVTEL.SIDE.IN.WES (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.I.M. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The chapel refered to is the chapel in the former burial ground of St Margaret's Church at Tothill Fields, see token number 9025 in the Sylloge of Coins of the British Isles, 62, The Norweb Collection: Tokens of the British Isles 1575-1750, Part VIII - Middlesex and Uncertain Pieces.
