The Bag of Nails
Henry Hurly issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Bag of Nails, in Tothill Street, Westminster.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3168; Obv inscription: Henry / Hurly. in / tuttle. Street / Westmin / ster (in five lines of cursive script, in field); Rev inscription: AT.YE.BAG.OF.NAILS.HIS.HALF.PENY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A bag of nails, crowned hammer, H.E.H. and 1668 (triad of initials in Roman capitals around sign, with date either side, in field).
