The Griffin
John Brown issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the Griffin, in Thieving Lane (now Victoria Street), Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3133; Obv inscription: IOHN.BROWNE.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A griffin (in field); Rev inscription: GRIFIN.IN.THIFING.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.A.B. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
