The Glove

Robert Norris, a glover, issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Thames Street (now Upper Thames Street and Lower Thames Street).

Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3113; Obv inscription: ROBERT.NORIS.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A glove (in field); Rev inscription: IEAMS.STREET.GLOVER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = R.M.N. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).

Boyne and Williamson record this token as being Thames Street, London Number 3113 in George C. Williamson, Trade Tokens issued in the Seventeenth Century; a new and revised edition of Wiliam Boyne's work (London, 1889), it has been identified as being in fact from St James' Street, Westminster, now the City of Westminster.
