Saxon & Medieval — Medieval; 13th-14th century
Toothpick; earscoop
This t-shaped toothpick has a small scoop at the end of the handle that would have been used as an ear cleaner. Although medieval doctors were uncertain whether bathing was good for you ('in time of pestilence avoid baths'), objects such as this toothpick/earscoop set show that medieval Londoners cared about personal grooming.
