The Bell
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the sign of the Bell in St John's Court.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2556; Obv inscription: AT.THE.BELL.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A bell (in field); Rev inscription: S.IOHNS.COVRT.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = R.C (in field, in Roman capitals).
St John's Court (now St John's Square), lay in the parish of Clerkenwell, in Middlesex; it now lies in the London Borough of Islington.
