The White Horse
This trade token, worth a half penny, was issued for a business at the sign of the White horse, in St James' Market (now Waterloo Place and environs), Westminster, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2533; Obv inscription: THE.WHITE.HORSE.TOKEN.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A horse 1670 (date below sign, in field); Rev inscription: ST.IAMES.MARKET.PLACE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.M.H. / ½ (triad of initials with ½ below, in field).
St James' Market, lay on St James' Fields, in Westminster, Middlesex; the area now forms Waterloo Place and its environs, to the north east of Pall Mall, in the City of Westminster.
