The Sugar Loaf and Barrels
John Slade issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Middle Row, Holborn, in the parish of St Giles in the Fields, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2509; Obv inscription: IOHN.SLADE.IN.ST.GILESES (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Three barrels and a sugar loaf (in field); Rev inscription: MIDELL.ROW.1668 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
