The Castle
John Butler issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in the parish of St Giles in the Fields, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2487; Obv inscription: IOHN.BVTLER.IN.ST (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A castle (in field); Rev inscription: GILES.IN.THE.FEILDS.1670 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.E.B. / ½ (triad of intials in Roman capitals, around ½, in field).
