The Coffee House
This trade token, worth a half penny, was issued at a coffee house in St Clement Danes Church, off the Strand.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2472; Obv inscription: YE.COFFEE.HOVSE.AGAINST (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.E.S. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: S.CLEMENTS.CHVRCH.STRAND (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
