Lawrence Lewis, a mercer, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business on the back side of St Clement Danes Church.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2465; Obv inscription: LAWRANCE. LEWES. IN. YE. BACK (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = L.I.L. / 1668 (triad of initials with date below, in field); Rev inscription: SIDE.OF.ST.CLEMENTS.MERCER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
The issuer is Lawrence Lewis of St Clement Danes, born 1664, see Percival Boyd, [Inhabitants of London]. Society of Genealogists, MS. 42421.
