W. K. Whitcombe, a brewer, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Parker Lane, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2185; Obv inscription: W. K. WHITCOMBE. BREWER. IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.W and four circles (initials in Roman capitals, in centre of field with circles around); Rev inscription: PARKERS.LANE.HIS.HALF.PENY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = 1664 (in field).
The issuer was William Whitcombe, to whom a Brewers' appretice was turned over to in 1657, see C. Webb ‘London Livery Company Apprenticeship Registers’ (London, 1996-, xxxvi. 101. Parkers Lane (now Parker Street), lies in the London Borough of Camden, having formerly been part of Middlesex.
