The New Exchange
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued for a business in the New Exchange, Strand, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2000A; Obv inscription: NEARE.THE.NEW (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = F.M.M. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: EXCHANGE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = 1657 (in field).
New Exchange was a set of buildings that ran parallel to the Strand, in Westminster, Middlesex, see Walter Thornbury, Old and New London: Volume 3, Chapter XVII, The Strand, southern tributaries - continued (London, 1878, pg. 100-101). The Strand now lies in the City of Westminster.
