The Chandler
James Bedford issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Lewknors Lane (now Macklin Street), Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1857; Obv inscription: IEAMS. BEDFORD. IN. LVTENERS (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.P.B. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: LANE.HIS.HALFE.PENNY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = 1669 / CHANDLER (in two lines of Roman capitals, in field).
Lewknors Lane, subsequently Charles Street, now Macklin Street, lay in Holborn, Middlesex; it now lies in the London Borough of Camden.
