The Vine
John Barnes, a wine cooper, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Vine, in Long Acre, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1781; Obv inscription: IOHN.BARNES.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A vine (in field); Rev inscription: VINE.IN.LONG.AKER.1664 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = WINE / COOPER / HIS ½ (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
