The Queen's Head
William Clarke issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the Queen's Head tavern, in King Street, Westminster, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1597; Obv inscription: WILL.CLARKE.IN.KING (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A queen's head (in field); Rev inscription: STRET.WESTMINSTER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.E.C. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
King Street lies in the City of Westminster, having previously been part of Middlesex. It has been recorded that it became part of Whitehall, see Pate 37 in the Sylloge of Coins of the British Isles, 62, The Norweb Collection: Tokens of the British Isles 1575-1750, Part VIII - Middlesex and Uncertain Pieces.
