The Key
This trade token, worth a half penny, was issued by a grocer, for his business in High Holborn, Middlesex; the issuers name is writen in a monogram.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1489; Obv inscription: IN.HIGH.HOLBORN.AT.YE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A monogram in cipher (in field); Rev inscription: GROSCER.HIS.HALF.PENY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A key between 1666 (in field).
High Holborn, lies in the London Borough of Camden, having formerly been part of Middlesex.
