The Black Boy
William Whetstone issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Holborn, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1482; Obv inscription: WILLIAM.WHETSTONE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A boy, holding a tobacco leaf and a roll of tobacco (in field); Rev inscription: IN. HOLBORNE. 1653 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.I.W. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
