The City of York
David Hatton issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the City of York tavern, in Holborn, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1420; Obv inscription: DAVID.HATTON.AT.YE.CITTY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A city with three towers and 'YORK' (text in Roman capitals above sign, in field); Rev inscription: IN. YE. MIDLE. ROW. IN. HOLBORN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENNY / D.E.H. (in four line of Roman capitals with triad of initials as bottom, in field); octagonal

There is another token issued for this premises in the museum collection, NN17768. Holborn, was formerly part of Middlesex, and now lies within the London Borough of Camden.
