The Hammer and Crown
Giles Baggs issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the Hammer and Crown, at Holborn Bridge, Holborn, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1361; Obv inscription: GILES.BAGGS.AT.THE.HAMER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A hammer and a crown (in field); Rev inscription: AND.CROWN.AT.HOLBORN.BRIDG (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = G.B (in field, in Roman capitals).
Giles Baggs, of St Andrew Holborn, Ironmonger, b. 1640, appr. 1657; md. Deborah Nayler 1666; bound twelve apprentices 1666-1713, see see Percival Boyd, [Inhabitants of London].
