The Candle
Thomas Gillmore, a tallow chandler (candle maker), issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Gary's Inn Lane (now Gray's Inn Road), Holborn, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1248A; Obv inscription: THO. GILLMORE. TALLOWCHAND (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A man dipping candles (in field); Rev inscription: LER.IN.GRAYS.INN.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = T.G (in field, in Roman capitals).
