The Swan Tavern
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the Swan tavern, at Gray's Inn Lane (now Gray's Inn Road), Holborn, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1243; Obv inscription: AT.THE.SWAN.TAVERNE (around field, in Roman capitals) = A swan (in field); Rev inscription: AT.GRAYSIN.LANE.END (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.M.C. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
