The Shovel
Thomas Gillman, a chandler (candle maker), issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business in Goswell Street, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1192; Obv inscription: THOMAS.GILLMAN.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A shovel, T.A.G. (triad of initials in Roman capitals around sign, in field); Rev: GOSSWELL.STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = CHAN / DLER (in two lines of Roman capitals, in field).
