The Fox
Ansell Carter issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the Golden Fox tavern in Drury Lane, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 860; Obv inscription: ANSELL.CARTER.AT.YE. GOLDEN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A fox (in field); Rev inscription: FOX.IN.DREWRY.LANE.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / A.A.C. (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials as bottom, in field).
