This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the Swan tavern in Butcher Row (area near The Strand), Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 455; Obv inscription: YE.SWAN.WITHOVT.TEM (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A swan (in field); Rev inscription: PLE.BAR.BVCHER.ROW (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = E.H.M. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Butcher Row lies in the City of Westminster, having formerly been part of Westminster, Middlesex.
