Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; 15th century
Unidentified head
Part of a badge. This fragment is in the shape of a circular face with all the features in the centre. Above the face are wavy lines which are possibly depicting hair. This badge may be a pilgrim badge but if so, the shrine it came from is currently unknown. Pilgrims who travelled to religious shrines frequently bought souvenirs of their pious journey such as ampullae (small bottles for holy water), badges and figurines.
