Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; 15th century
Unidentified tonsured head
Part of a badge in the shape of a man’s head. He has a monk’s tonsure (a shaved part on his scalp) and ears that stick out. It is possible that this is a pilgrim souvenir, but if so, the shrine where it was made is unknown. Pilgrims who travelled to religious shrines frequently bought souvenirs of their pious journey such as ampullae (small bottles for holy water), badges and figurines.
