The Cupid, Bow & Arrow
Abraham Cuper, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Arundel Gardens (part of the current site of Arundel House, on the Strand), Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 103; Obv inscription: ABRAHAM.CVPER.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Cupid with bow and arrow (in field); Rev inscription: IT.ARUNDEL.GARDEN. (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / A.M.C (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials as bottom, in field).
Arundel Gardens occupied part of the site of Arundel House, just off the Strand, in the City of Westminster, formerly part of Westminster, Middlesex.
