Shield; England
The royal arms are 'Quarterly France ancient and England', the style of arms in use between 1340 and c.1406. A right-hand fragment from a similar badge in the Salisbury Museum collection (204b/1987) suggests that the legend would have read '...King and his mainy that sit in Trinity...'. 'Mainy' refers to the kings household or retinue and the badge may allude to a gathering of the royal household or followers on a particular Trinity Sunday.
