Talbot; Earls of Shrewsbury
Livery badge of the talbot, dated to the 15th century. The dog is a 'talbot', a hunting dog with long hanging ears and heavy jaws, the badge of the Talbot family, decendents of John Talbot, first Earl of Shrewsbury (d.1453). This badge would have been worn by a servant or supporter of the family. A stone mould in the collection found in London Wall in 1901, was used for casting a series of talbot badges.
