Copper, copper alloy, tie hook, lorica segmentata tie hook
A copper-alloy tie hook from Roman plate armour (lorica segmentata). The body has broken before the second rivet hole and has become distorted in shape. The neck has been flattened somewhat and seems to have been formed by rolling up the sheet from which the body was formed. The end of the circular-sectioned hook has been 'pinched' to give a spatulate terminal.
