Prehistoric — Neolithic; 3,500 - 2,750 BCE
Bowl
Pottery was first introduced to Britain during the Neolithic period. The first pottery vessels were made by hand, often in the same forms as leather, wood and basketwork containers, sometimes the pottery vessels were decorated to resemble those containers as well. Also, new vessel forms developed as well. Pottery cooking vessels had the advantage of being able to withstand direct heat while cooking in the fires. This facilitated different methods of cooking and different recipes. There were also different ways of storing and serving food.
