Port & River — 1865-1895
Grappling-iron
Dock policeman's grappling-iron in leather case. Such equipment was issued to Dock policemen for rescuing people who had fallen into the dock or River Thames. The leather case would be fastened to the belt of the Policeman's jacket by a leather strap. The four pronged iron is attached to a wooden cylinder around which is wound a length of rope.
