Wheel, ships' steering wheel
A brass decorated wooden wheel for steering a ship, sold by Davey & Co, ship chandlers at West India Dock Road, Tower Hamlets. The horizontal brass spoke enabled the helmsman to feel when the wheel was centred, so that the rudder would be amidships and the ship on a straight course.
