Port & River — 1845-1888
Sampling tool, sampling iron with wooden handle
This sampling iron was probably used to collect samples from sacks of flour or similar cargoes. It was collected from the Tilbury Dock in Essex, but as it may pre-date the mid-19th century, it was probably originally in use in one of the upriver docks.
