Writing tablet
Excavated rom a rubbish pit north west of the Coopers' Arms. This may be the tablet referred to in 'London in the Roman World' by Dominic Perring (2022), pg. 206, where it is described as a ink-leaf tablet found discarded in a first century well at Temple House in 1959: 'This was sent to London (Londinii) from someone probably in Rochester (Durobrivae) about a boy, perhaps a slave, who had run away with a wagon.' Translation from article by Professor Turner, JRS, Vol. 50, pg. 110: 'Know that I (to) the boy...that boy, when (on a waggon?) he had diverted the part (that he was to ....?), ran away. The next day how (after?) I (left?) London...Know that I am remaining at Durobriuae...'
