Flagon
Single handled flagon with collared rim in Verulamium Region White ware. A faint graffito on the shoulder reads LONDINI ADFANVM ISIDIS, or 'At the temple of Isis, London'. This graffito was the first evidence for the cult of Isis in Britain when it was found and shows there was a temple dedicated to her in London. Isis was an Egyptian goddess, whose powers included healing and fertility. See Collingwood & Wright, The Roman Inscriptions of Britain, Vol II, Fascicule 8, 1995, pg. 55, no. 2503.127.
