Flask, aryballos
Miniature glass aryballos (flask). The opening of the flask is only 3 mm across, suggesting that the flask was ornamental, not functional. It was found in a burial.
Technical information: Colour: monochrome blue. Good quality glass, with few visible bubbles or impurities. Weathered, making surface crazed and matt. Parts present: near-complete (rim, neck, body, handles), but large section (approx 20%) missing from one side of the body and gap-filled. Isings form 61. Miniature. Rim in-turned, flat, very wide and slightly irregular, leaving an opening of just 3 mm. This suggests that the vessel was ornamental, not functional. Each handle made from a single trail laid on outside of shoulder, drawn back and up to touch neck and rim, then folded back again. Body slightly flattened and rough at base, possibly with ground-out pontil scar. Objects 35.118/22 - 35.118/28 are all part of the same burial group.
