Flagon
This is a Roman flagon, they were made from earthenware- a hard and rough type of pottery. They were used across the empire to store and pour liquids, such as wine, beer, water and olive-oil. This grey one was made in the greater London-Hertfordshire area in the 1st to 2nd centuries CE, and was found at Finsbury Circus in the city. Archaeologists think that this was a 'second', because it had been dented before firing, meaning that it would have been cheaper to buy.
