Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of the Roman Republic. The coin depicts Venus, the Roman goddess of love and Cupid, the god of desire. This coin was minted under the authority of the moneyer, Manius Cordius Rufus, in Rome, Italy, c. 46 BC.
Obv: Diademed head of Venus, facing right. Obv inscription: RVFVS SC. Rev: Cupid, seated on a dolphin, advancing right. Rev inscription: [MV CORDIVS]. Part of a hoard from the site of Temple House, Queen Victoria Street, City of London, 1958.
