Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of the Roman Republic. The coin depicts Vesta, the Roman goddess of home and family. This coin was minted under the authority of the moneyer, Q. Cassius, in Rome, Italy, c. 57 BC.
Obv: Veiled head of Vesta, facing right. Obv inscription: Q CASSIVS / [VEST]. Rev: The domed temple of Vesta, surmounted by a figure. Within the temple is a curule chair. The temple is flanked by a voting urn to the left and a tabella (table) inscribed A[C] to the right. Countermarked with a crescent on the roof of the temple. Part of a hoard from the site of Temple House, Queen Victoria Street, City of London, 1958.
