Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of the Roman Republic. The coin depicts Jupiter, king of the Roman gods, and Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory. This coin was minted under the authority of the moneyer, Q. Antonius Balbus, in Rome, Italy, c. 81 BC.
Obv: Laureate head of Jupiter, facing right. Obv inscription: SC. Rev: Victory in a quadriga (chariot), advancing right, holding a wreath and palm. Rev inscription: C in field, Q AVTO BA B/PR in exergue. Part of a hoard from the site of Temple House, Queen Victoria Street, City of London, 1958.
